How it works
A Shelly relay is a small module that goes in the box behind your existing switch. The switch keeps working as before, and you can now also turn the light on from your phone, by voice or automatically.
Which model for what
- Shelly 1 and 1 Mini for one light or appliance. The Mini versions are smaller and fit shallow boxes.
- PM in the name means power metering, for example Shelly 1PM Gen4.
- Shelly 2PM controls two circuits or one roller shutter.
- Shelly Dimmer for dimmable lights.
- Shelly 1L is made for installations without a neutral wire.
The neutral wire
Many modules need a neutral wire (the blue one) in the switch box. Older apartments often don't have it. In that case you choose a model for installations without neutral, or we check before installing.
Generations
Gen3 and Gen4 devices run on Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth, with no hub. Gen4 models also support Zigbee and Matter, so they connect easily to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and Home Assistant.
Safety
Relays are installed on 230 V. Installation should be done by an electrician or our installer, with the breaker switched off.
Alternative: Aqara switches
If you'd rather replace the switch itself, Aqara H1 and H2 switches replace your existing one and come in versions with and without neutral.
